This is an update to the pending NAM lawsuit against the Secretary of State concerning the purported deficiency of signatures in Congressional District 2 which includes portions of St. Louis County, St. Charles County and Jefferson County.
On August 18, a Motion to Intervene was on behalf of 12 prosecuting attorneys from across Missouri. The PAs are from all over the State and include, St. Louis County PA Robert P. McCulloch, St. Louis City PA Jennifer M. Joyce, St. Charles County PA Timothy A. Lohmar, and Jackson County PA Jean Peters-Baker. Notably, the PA for Jefferson County, Forrest K. Wegge, is not included in the Motion.
The Motion is full of hyperbole, dangerous speculation, and unfounded conclusions. My favorite assertion is "Marijuana is a gateway drug, which destroys children’s lives and results in addiction and a lifetime of suffering." Take a look at the Motion here.
I expect the Court will grant the Motion to Intervene. However, that does not mean the State automatically wins. I expect NAM's attorneys are furiously working on addressing the real issue in this case which is to confirm that the requisite number of signatures were secured in Congressional District 2.
